Built as a croft 200 years ago, the cottage has been in the same family ever since. The owners have lovingly restored the house which has a relaxed, informal atmosphere. The rooms are comfortable and traditional, in keeping with the original character and the sitting room remains the heart of the house with its open fire and antique furniture. A lovely feature is the large partly rediscovered private garden where guests can enjoy barbecues during the summer and wonderful views in this truly scenic spot. Loch Lomond, 'The Queen of Scottish Lochs', is 23 miles long and the best way to discover her charms is to take a pleasure cruise. There are opportunities to hire boats for sailing or fishing and for walking, the 'West Highland Way' follows part of the shore. There is a pub/hotel in the village, a visitor centre and a shop (open summer only). Additional shops in Drymen, 4 miles, where the hotel holds regular Sunday ceilidhs. 1 double bedroom (ground floor), steep stairs lead to the twin bedroom which has wonderful views and an additional comfortable pull-out single bed, sitting room, dining room, compact kitchen with view to the loch, bathroom with electric there is a shower installed over the bath. Crosskeys Cottage (Helensburgh) sleeps a maximum of 4 people. Crosskeys Cottage is a traditional Scottish detached cottage situated on the west side of Loch Lomond, only 2 miles from the Loch itself. Dougrie Holiday Let (Gartocharn) sleeps a maximum of 6 people. Dougrie Holiday Let is a lovely first floor apartment with accommodation for six people. The property is located in the small village of Gartocharn, only a few miles from Loch Lomond and within the heart of the National Park. The interior is bright, modern and tastefully co-ordinated. The lounge has a large picture window making the room wonderful and light, as well as providing a lovely view over farmland. It also has a quirky fun bar, featuring two whisky barrels and optics for your holiday drinks! All the rooms have high coombed ceilings with velux windows. The kitchen is fully fitted and well equipped. Both shower rooms are fully tiled and have power showers. Each bedroom has a built-in wardrobe space, dressing tables and hairdryers. Dougrie is ideal for a family holiday and with its fantastic central location makes a great base to explore the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. From Gartocharn itself you can walk down into Aber shore and into the local Nature Reserve. Local fishing is available on the River Endrick. There is a small local hill called Duncryne, which is locally better known as the Dumpling due to its resemblance to a Scottish pudding called a Cloutie Dumpling. It is well worth a walk up and on a clear day provides a wonderful view out over Loch Lomond. The village also has a great community hall where you may find some local events held. There is a small village shop, petrol station and restaurant. Ross Priory gardens are open to the public at certain times of the year.
